Industry Pinewood Derby

Alright folks, it’s a battle of the bars and restaurants… Pinewood Derby style. Each competing bar or restaurant can field two derby cars, one for the front of house and one for the back of house. Registration is required in advance so please make sure to visit http://www.coppercrowalbany.com/derby to register your car in advance. There is a $25 registration fee per car that can be paid the day of the races.

Pinewood Derby Race Rules

The derby races will be held in heats with three or four cars racing in each heat. Each heat will have the same number of races and competing cars will change lanes in between each race. Each competitor may call one three minute time out if necessary to make quick repairs to their car in between races. The winner of each race will receive three points, second place three points and third place one point.

Pinewood derby cars must be crafted for a commercially available derby car kit block as a starting point. These kits may be purchase online or they can be purchased locally at Hobby Lobby (https://www.hobbylobby.com/crafts-hobbies/hobbies-collecting/pine-cars/) or at Michaels (https://www.michaels.com/shop/crafts-hobbies/modeling-rocketry/pinewood-derby). You may upgrade the cars wheels and axles. You may modify the body in any way you see fit so long as you do not increase the width of the vehicle such that it interferes with the operation of cars in adjoining lanes. Lubricating oil is not allowed. Powdered graphite or silicone is allowed. The car cannot have any kind of suspension or spring. You may use weights to increase the weight of your car but if you do, the weight cannot exceed 5 ounces. You may affix any decorative items you wish for appearance sake without regard for weight but cannot use extra weights if your car exceeds five ounces. Any car whose decorations appear to be designed to increase weight make be disqualified. The more wild and irreverent your car the better

Prize money (and prize booze) will be awarded to the 1st place, 2nd and 3rd place cars. Prize will also be awarded (by vote) for the most creative and well designed car. Prize money amounts will be determined by the number of entrants.

Race Time

Setup and check-in is from 5pm to 6pm. Races start promptly at 6pm.

Bar and Food

The bar will be open for cash/credit purchases and we will have pizza available by the slice.
